After a 4 month lay off we were more than willing to kick off the season with a early morning trip over to Gloucestershire. This was Solo's debut show. He still needs more training with the weaves so we knew he would be eliminated in each of his classes but practice makes perfect! By his third run he was getting the idea and following the course. Our first go at an indoor agility competition held at the Arena UK near Grantham in Lincolnshire, so a very early start was on the cards. Ripley seems to have had a new lease of life and got two clear rounds in Elementary Jumping and Agility whilst Shona went clear in Elementary Agility and was placed 13th. Vega and his handler both had their minds elsewhere in Novice Jumping as they mucked up the weaves and took the wrong course. Dooh!!!!!! CHIPPENHAM AC 11th/12th September,2004. Our first time at Longleat and what a setting! We were camped right next to the half mile lake which had hippos and seals in it and had a stunning view of the house. Unfortunately, the weather was not too good and we were back down to earth after the previous week at Letchworth as Vega decided he was going to have his silly head on and failed to get a clear round - that's Belgians for you! Ripley did two clear but slow rounds in Starters Jumping on both days and Shona went clear in Any Size Jumping. Despite the weather we stayed until the monday to make a long weekend of it. LETCHWORTH DTC 3rd/4th/5th September, 2004. Another of our favourite venues and good weather to boot. Vega got a clear round in his leg of the Novice Pairs jumping. The next day we had seven runs but only Ripley went clear in Starters Jumping in a time of 33.96 seconds. E.M.D.A.C.14th/15th August, 2004. Our first visit to one of the "unaffiliated" shows and we thoroughly enjoyed it! On the Saturday, Shona went clear in her two runs in Veteran Maxi Jumping and Veteran Maxi Helter Skelter. Vega decided to duck under the first fence in his runs and Ripley was again doing what she does best - mucking around. On the Sunday, Ripley went clear in the Primary Maxi Plus Jumping and Vega was eliminated in both of his runs but it wasn't all his fault especially when the handler sent him into the wrong end of the tunnel! The star of the day was Shona as she again went clear in her two runs and got placed in Veteran Maxi Clockwork Tunnels (13th) and went one better in Veteran Maxi Jumping (12th). With all her placings and awarded points she ended up being 15th best veteran dog on the day. THE AGILITY CLUB1st August, 2004. Hot weather greeted us at Newbury. Ripley went clear and in time in Starters Agility despite yet again messing about. Vega had two runs but made mistakes. By lunchtime the weather was so hot we decided to pull the dogs from their remaining runs and go home - there is always another day! CORTON A.T.S.17th July, 2004. A trip down to Wootton Bassett this time. Vega went clear in Elementary Jumping in a time of 28.10 seconds and he finally got it right (or maybe the handler did!) in Novice Jumping - a clear round in 34.09 seconds and ended up just outside the placings (23rd). Ripley went clear in Starters Agility but again had time faults. ST. EDWARDS D.T.C.4th July, 2004. Another very early start with a journey down to Hayes in Essex. I think we should have stayed in bed! Ripley did two clear rounds in Starters Agility and Novice Jumping but was well out of time - she gets more slug like every day! Vega did two good runs in Starters and Novice Jumping but made silly mistakes. It was left to Shona to save the day with a clear round in Any Size Jumping in a time of 19.09 seconds. B.A.T.S.26th June, 2004. A short trip to Luton this time. Ripley was first to run in Starters Agility - a clear round but over the time allowed. Too much posing on the A-Frame again!!!!! Vega's run in Starters Jumping provided the only clear of the day in a time of 31.903 seconds and a 20th place rosette. GOLDEN VALLEY D.T.C.20th June, 2004. Another early morning start with a trip over to Worcester. It turned out to be a worthwhile one as we gained four clear rounds out of five runs. Vega in Starters Jumping in a time of 27.33 seconds (just outside the place rosettes - 32nd - out of 269 entries) and his first ever Open Jumping class, in a time of 27.38 seconds. Ripley gained a clear in Starters Jumping in a time of 34.92 seconds and Shona went clear in Any Size Jumping in a time of 25.02 seconds. CIPPENHAM (SLOUGH) D.T.C.30th May, 2004
One of our favourite shows, relaxed and very friendly, even the weather was reasonably kind to us. Vega was first to run in Starters Jumping (with a familiar judge - our ex trainer Ian Watts, without the hat) and went clear in a time of 30.60 seconds and was awarded a 21st place rosette. His next run in Elementary Jumping proved successful as well with a clear round and a 25th place rosette. In Novice Jumping, we fell foul of the trap at the start, otherwise Vega flew round the rest of the course. Ripley had a clear round in Starters Jumping and Shona went clear in Veteran Agility and the Any Size Jumping classes. We were so busy chatting to our friend Mike that we missed our run with Ripley in the Starters Agility class - Hey Ho we had a good day anyway. VYNE3rd May, 2004
Not a day for the faint hearted - lashing rain greeted us at the Newbury Showground. Ripley was first to go in Starters Jumping but messed the weaves up. Next it was Vega in Elementary Jumping but the course was more like a Novice one. To our delight he flew round the course, got the weaves right and went clear in 37.29 seconds and earned himself an 18th place rosette. Shona and Vega did the Starters Jumping course but made mistakes and Ripley totally demolished the first fence in the Starters Agility competition. With the weather and conditions under foot both worsening we decided to call it a day and not run the last two competitions. DORDALE A.T.S1st May, 2004. Vega did two good runs but made errors at the first fence in Starters Jumping and the weaves in Novice Jumping. Shona made errors in both her classes so it was left to Ripley to save the day, she got a clear round in Starters Jumping despite almost somersaulting at the third last fence. DASHIN' DOGS9th - 12th April, 2004. Our first agility competition of the year so not expecting too much from the dogs as we haven't done hardly any training throughout the winter due to the weather and other commitments. The Friday was arrive and set up day for us at the venue - Newport Showground in Shropshire.Saturday morning and the competing gets under way, Ripley is first to run in Starters Agility and she's up to her old tricks by posing on the 'A' Frame and the Dog Walk, but despite her antics she manages a clear round within the time - much to the amusement of the crowd. Two further runs in Starters Jumping and Novice Jumping also produce clear rounds (nothing to pose on in a jumping course ha!). Both Shona and Vega have two runs each but make mistakes. Sunday and both Shona and Vega are getting into the swing ot things with a clear round apiece in Starters Jumping. Ripley has decided she's got her silly head on and decides to run out of the ring. After lunch we do the presentations for the Vapresto BSD Agility League Novice Competition - WELL DONE to all concerned. Monday, Shona and Vega again get clear rounds in Starters Jumping but Ripley is still messing about although her last run in Novice Jumping is an improvement. |
